Polish Forbidden Door and the unification of the Polish wrestling scene
For more than 10 years since its inception, the Polish pro wrestling scene didn't cooperate and instead each promotion chose to remain in its own insular bubble.
When Do Or Die Wrestling started in 2009, its founder Don Roid instilled in his students the idea of isolationism from the rest of the scene, as well as disdain for backyard groups. This approach persisted within DDW until its dissolution in 2015, and was inherited by its successors: Maniac Zone Wrestling, Kombat Pro Wrestling and Prime Time Wrestling.
Backyard groups such as PPW, Polish Xtreme Wrestling, Dream Factory Wrestling or Toruń Wrestling Federation, being unrelated to DDW, didn't share these values and cooperated freely; some well-documented examples of such cooperation include BackyardMania III or PPW Backyard Total War.
The first sign of change in pro federations' attitude came about in 2023, when MZW and PpW held a joint show: MZW+PpW Żadnych Granic. The two promotions' workers met at Polish Wrestling Academy's training sessions and befriended one another, resulting in the idea of working together. (Even before that, back in 2021, then-MZW wrestlers Madman Charlie and Isnorr had a match at the first PpW Ledwo Legalne show, although they fought one another rather than any PpW workers.) In 2024 MZW's owner and co-founder Shadow appeared at PpW Miasto Bezprawia. What soon followed was a free exchange of workers between the two promotions, which especially benefitted MZW with their limited active roster of home-grown talent.
The next major change occurred in late 2024 with the inception of Legacy of Wrestling, created by ex-PTW workers dissatisfied with the promotion. Unlike the other federations, Legacy chose not to have a wrestling school of their own, relying instead on outside talent. This approach helped further bring together PpW, MZW and ex-PTW personnel, and for the first time KPW agreed to work with representatives of the Polish scene.
Initially KPW limited themselves to just working Legacy shows, but starting with PpW Dwa Na Dwa in 2026, KPW's wrestlers began making appearances at PpW shows with increasing frequency. The first active KPW worker to be booked by PpW was Filip Fux, soon followed by Leon Lato and others. Then, in mid-2026, KPW seemingly changed their long-held policy even further by booking Olgierd for Arena 34 and potentially opening themselves for more workers from other promotions as well.
As of June 2026, PTW remains the only Polish pro wrestling federation that still isolates from the rest of the scene. This, however, might be subject to change, as owner Łukasz Okoński stated in an interview with Kroolikowy that he is open to having workers from other promotions in the PTW ring, and that he had already spoken with some of them (without providing any details).
A notable outlier is Mine City Wrestling which, despite being considered a backyard with no ties to DDW, also refrains from establishing ties with other promotions, for reasons of their own. The closest they came to cooperating with the rest of the Polish scene was in 2024, when Legacy negotiated renting MCW's ring for their first show, however the negotiations fell through.
